Community Well-Being: AACNs Health Initiatives

In our Africans and Caribbean communities, health is holistic—it’s not just about surviving, it’s about thriving in body, mind, and spirit. At the Association of Africans and Caribbean Network (AACN), we are committed to promoting wellness in all its forms, from physical health to emotional resilience and access to care.

Our communities often face unique health disparities—from higher rates of hypertension and diabetes to limited access to culturally sensitive healthcare providers. Language, immigration status, and income can further widen these gaps. AACN's mission is to close them.

Our Community Health & Wellness Fairs bring together local clinics, mental health counselors, wellness coaches, and public health professionals to offer free screenings, consultations, and education. We also guide community members on how to get resources on preventive care, nutrition, mental health awareness, and reproductive health—topics often left unspoken in our cultures.

In 2025, we launched our “Healthy Roots” initiative, focused on empowering families to eat better, move more, and prioritize regular checkups. We also provide translation support for non-English speakers seeking medical services and connect families to clinics that understand their cultural background.

We are especially proud of our mental health workshops. Too often, emotional well-being is overlooked in our communities due to stigma. Through open dialogues, group sessions, and survivor stories, AACN is shifting the conversation and making healing a shared journey.
