About this story

AACN is moving from distributing hygiene kits to helping displaced residents at Casa Marianella prepare for, find and keep work.

Beginning August 3, the Association of Africans and Caribbean Network (AACN) is taking on a critical mission: to solve a real and urgent problem faced by displaced brothers and sisters at Casa Marianella in Austin.

After months of distributing hygiene kits with love, compassion and care, AACN is moving toward something more sustainable: job readiness, job searching and placement support. The effort includes resume building, workplace orientation and soft skills training, employment referrals and job search coaching, and support for self-employment and small-business start-up paths.

As a result, AACN has paused the first-Sunday hygiene kit distribution, not as a step back but to focus fully on helping every resident earn from their labour and reclaim their future. AACN will also make more regular visits to Casa Marianella.

How you can help: volunteer, mentor, partner, and help spread the mission. Visit the Get Involved page to take part.
